in over our heads

While discussing the project in class before filming, we are realizing there are a lot of moving pieces that are uncertain.  For example, at this time we don't know if we are going to be able to use the house in Surfside to shoot (owners renovating); and we still don't know if we can get the equipment we need.  We are feeling like we bit off more than we can chew.  However, the team agrees we like this idea, and are willing to stick to the original ideas and do the work necessary.  This project is something we are all passionate about, and we feel we can do the project and attack the challenges one task at a time.  One team member is a senior, and realizes this is his last film project in high school, and he wants to go hard on this project, his last hurrah!

it begins pt.2

This is the week we start to film.  As mentioned in earlier posts, our schedule was disrupted due to Spring Break.  Now the grind begins.  My group and I need to rent the equipment.  We have a member of the team whose Dad works for a TV station, so we asked if we could borrow the equipment. Dad agreed!  We will be using equipment borrowed!  This is a big opportunity for us because we wanted to make this project as good as possible.  By using professional equipment, we felt we could film it and have it look like eye candy. The majority of professional equipment came from or group members father but our group collectively had some equipment as well. we got the main camera (canon c500) from our friends father cause it was  way out of our price range as well as the cinema lens. The rest of the equipment we used is below... 7d ii  and t5i 24-105mm,  50mm, and cinema lenses Lights Rodi mic Tripod Drone T6i Rodi mic Tripod Dolly Gimbal Smoke

plot walk through

The Film opens with an establish shot of a house, alarm clock is going off. Actors yawns and looks around. Yelling can be heard in the background - his family is having an argument. Actor not shown. Dad  “turn your alarm clock off now” in an angry voice. Arguing continues as main character turns off alarm and gets dressed. Setting shows a room of a kid who is interested in skateboarding, with different posters on his wall that depict this idea.  Fully dressed in a typical outfit of somebody that skateboard wears. (black/cargo jeans, plain shirt high socks). Actor finished getting dressed walks in living room. MOM “Jared, what did i tell you about turning your  alarm clock on” Son “ I'm sorry” The relationship between the parents and the son is noted in which appears to be abusive although not enough is known to make this assumption thus far. Dad drops glass on the floor, shatters every. Low angle shot of glass falling Dad upset “clean up my glass now before I step on i

My group and I sat down after coming up with the general idea of what we wanted to produce, and started planning.  One difficulty that we ran into was that Spring Break cut into our timeline.  One half of the group was not available because they were out of town, so schedules were not lining up.  We realized we need to shoot the film in advance of Spring Break which would give us ample time to edit and revise. lets see how this plays out. scouting

We are going to run with the skateboarding idea! Thus begins the location scouting process. We are going for that city look which is why we are set on shooting the opening in Miami. My Aunt lives there and she has a house that captured the look we are trying to incorporate so immediately I reached out to her and asked if we could film at her house. She said no due to renovations ongoing in her home. This was a huge problem.  From the start, I wanted to make the opening as genuine looking as possible and I knew that using this house was going to help in doing so. We came up with the idea to shoot the opening scene in the room not at my Aunt's house in Miami, but our group members' house in Weston.  We just needed a bedroom.  This was one of the times the team had to adapt to a situation.  It was annoying at first, but it taught the team a lesson:  think on your feet and solve problems without letting the surprises trip your process up.  The next location we want to film the ma

conventions

Hey blog! so in the last post I told you guys about the project and the general direction we wanted to go. so i this post i want to talk about some plot aspects. while we don't have whole opening put together just yet, we know some aspects we want to introduce. The conflict in the story is character vs. character and character vs. self. The first conflict is because we want to display the main character having a bad time where he lives due to an abusive situation at home. we looking to add some actual arguing or fighting into the opening to create that feeling of a chaotic, broken household. The second conflict is the character vs. self because we plan to incorporate a problem the main character has with himself and how he deals with the problem through skateboarding. we chose the genre of drama therefore we plan to incorporate some conventions into the opening.  drama movies capture real life scenarios. Dramas mainly focus on the main character. we plan to do just that in our op

Hey blog! Today my group and I started brain storming for the plot/story of the film opening. we are having some trouble coming up with ideas. The re-occurring problem that we were running into was that the duration of the opening was only two minutes, and all of our ideas were too complicated to fit into a two minute opening.  The two minute maximum for the opening forced us to constantly change the ideas. It challenged us to condense whatever we could by cutting out unnecessary parts from the plot. If it did not help pull the plot of the story along then it wasn't included into the story. My group and I looked to the film the mid 90s for inspiration. The movie is about how  a 13-year-old spends his summer navigating between a troubled home life and a crew of new friends he meets at a skate shop so we have an idea of the direction we went to go toward!
